Brand & Web Design Process
I do things a little differently. While most brand and website designers will give you timelines in terms of weeks or months, I offer project timelines in terms of days.
Prior to Brand or Web Design:
1. Connection
We have a 30 minute chat to discuss your business, needs, priorities, project scope and deadline. If your needs go beyond one of my packages or you want a more in-depth audit of your brand or website, I recommend a Brand & Web Plan.
2. Booking
After determining the scope of work, we schedule your project. A 50% deposit required.
3. Prep Work
Yes, you will have a little homework. Upon booking, you will be provided with a Brand & Web Questionnaire and Dropbox folder for sharing any assets such as text content, images or other project files. These must be completed before our kick off call.
4. Kick Off Call
Up to one week before the start of our project, we review your questionnaire and project assets together to ensure we are in alignment about creative direction.
Website Week
The following is the process for a 3-5-page WordPress Website.
CLIENT INVOLVEMENT: Client needs to be available near the end of each work day for review/approvals as we progress through the project. On the final day, we also schedule a 30-min walkthrough zoom call in the early afternoon for final approvals and admin/editor tutorial.
Day 1: Monday
Site Setup & Wireframe
- Setup WordPress core and framework, settings and plugins
- Wireframe all 5 pages with basic content formatting only (headings, bold, italics, etc.)
- Setup basic navigation menu(s)
- Client review/approve wireframes at end of day
Day 2: Tuesday
Branding & Design
- Setup and apply brand visual identity from an already complete Brand Style Guide that includes web colour palette, typography, design elements, etc. (*)
- Design header and footer; add logo, mobile logo, favicon, etc. that appears across the entire website
- Design homepage, which establishes the basis for the rest of the website
- Client review/approval at end of Day 2 then break for Wednesday
(*) If you do not have a complete Brand Style Guide, but “just a logo and some colours,” then we add a Brand Day prior to our Website Week to ensure all of this is ready.
Day 3: Thursday
Content
- Optimize and insert images
- Write and/or edit text with SEO in mind
- Additional search engine optimization customizations
- Add CTAs (calls-to-action) and content interlinking to lead viewers through your website
- Client review/approve content
Day 4: Friday
Launch Day
- Content finishing touches
- Testing of mobile-responsive design
- Final approvals and edits — can be done live on a call!
- Client walkthrough call of Admin area (editor back-end)
- Launch! Update domain record and/or migrate website to domain root
- Finalization and testing of contact form, if applicable
- Invoice & Pay
For a 6-10 page website, the process expands to:
- Day 1: Setup & Wireframe
- Day 2: Wireframes (second day for additional pages)
- Break for Wednesday
- Day 3: Branding & Design
- Day 4: Content (first day)
- Break for weekend
- Day 5: Content (second day for additional pages)
- Day 6: Launch
