Sooke Community Guide
As a passion project and extension of Caprina Designs since the year 2000, I recently designed a new brand, print collateral and trade show booth for participation in Sookarama 2024.

Backstory
Sooke.org is the longest continuously-running Sooke community website, since year 2000. I recently resumed the helm and we continue to update the website. While others have come and gone, Sooke.org has a proven track record and staying power over 20+ years. Business listings support the community by making it possible to keep this passion project website updated and listing community groups and events for free. We consistently receive feedback that Sooke.org is a valuable resource for local and prospective residents, reaching people through our long-term exceptional search rankings.
Design Challenge for Sookarama 2024
I had signed up to participate in the Sooke Lions Club’s annual Sookarama trade show event back in February 2020, then the pandemic hit. It would be FOUR years before I got another crack at it. The event returned last year, but I was away for the summer in the Kootenays. This year, I was asked and jumped at the chance for Early Bird Signup! Then it was ON to design an entire trade show booth on a limited budget (this is a passion project after all). Somewhere along the line I also decided, well if I’m gonna spend the money on printing, I may as well do it right and finally design the logo I’d had rolling around in my mind forever.
So I set to work designing a new logo, based on the font Lobster, adding wave-like swirls. I wanted the logo to feel bold and west coast. I kept the blues and greens of the original (web safe!) colour palette, but muted them to give the overall a softer, gentler feel. I also designed a large format postcard to advertise advertising on Sooke.org plus posters. I hand-picked the wooden boxes and nature-invoking props from second hand stores and the dollar store (reuse and recycle!). The wooden coasters I designed and laser engraved myself (another passion project!). Oh and yes, that’s my local nature photography. (In fact, the last time my photos were in the Sooke Arena was for the Sooke Fine Arts Show in 2019.)
The public was very attracted to and receptive of my Sooke.org booth, with many compliments on the photography and design.
